One of the five great religious feasts of the Armenian Church, Virgin Mary’s Assumption (Verapohum Surp Asdvadzadzni) is celebrated on August 15. For this occasion, a special celebration was held in the Surp Levon Armenian Catholic Church in Kadıköy, like in all the Armenian Churches.
This festival, known as the “Grape Feast”, is also an annual festival in which, the Armenian people who is engaged in agriculture thanks to God at the end of the cultivation of grapes. After the harvest is completed, the products are collected and placed in warehouses, followed by Mary’s Feast of Assumption.
During the celebration of Mary’s Assumption, the grapes which are considered as the symbol day, are blessed (Khaghoğorhnutyun) and distributed to the public.
