After the Easter ceremonies held at the İskenderun Greek Orthodox Church last year, which we shot a documentary of it as the SAT-7 TURKISH Team, were again at the Mersin Greek Orthodox Church for the celebrations of the Holy Week.
The Holy Week celebrations in the St. Michael and St. Gabriel Orthodox Church in Mersin were led by the parish priest Rev. Fr. Ispir Teymur of the Mersin Orthodox Church.
The teachings of Christ and the events happened in His last days were remembered at the celebrations of the Holy Wednesday, Holy Thursday (Last Supper), Holy Friday (The Passion of Christ), The Vigil of Easter and the Feast of the Resurrection.
During the celebration of the Holy Wednesday, the Holy Oil was blessed and the anointing of Christ with fragrant oil (myrrh) and the betrayal of Judas were remembered. As a result of Judas betrayed Jesus on Wednesday, fasting on Wednesdays became a tradition in the Eastern church calendar. At the end of the Holy Wednesday celebration, Father Teymur blessed the congregation with the sacred oil.
