The Day of Respect to the Holy Cross is celebrated in the third week of Easter in the Greek Orthodox Church of Mersin.
The concept of this celebration was the joy and victory instead of suffering. Church fathers identified the living Cross with the tree of life and placed it in the middle of the spiritual journey of the fasting period. He is the tree planted in heaven, and his mission reminds us both of the happiness that Adam possessed and of how Adam is deprived of this happiness.
At the end of the celebration, the tray of the Cross decorated with flowers, carried by Father İspir Coskun Teymur on his head. He is followed by children carrying crosses decorated with flowers and at the end of the celebration these flowers are distributed to the faithful.
