19-year-old Y.E., who lives in Gebze and is a member of the Üsküdar Cankurtaran Church, was physically and verbally attacked by two people.
Two people who saw the cross on the neck of the young man asked “What is this? Do you know what that means?” and Y.E. answered “Yes, I know. I’m a Christian. This is the symbol of the crucifixion of our savior, Jesus Christ for our sins.” Then the aggressors slapped Y.E.
Y.E. DID NOT WANT TO RESORT TO LEGAL REMEDIES
Y.E told the pastor Hakan Taştan about this attack and did not complain to the police. Pastor Hakan Taştan said: “We Christians are prepared for these attacks. Because in this world where our Lord Jesus Christ is persecuted, it is normal that we, as his disciples, be persecuted. That’s what Jesus Christ says. In many places in the Bible there are verses explaining this.”
Another person who made a statement about the attack was the Protestant Churches Association Press Spokesman Soner Tufan. “We find this attack unacceptable; we condemn it, we pray to God to give wisdom to those who attacked him. This attack is a result of the growing hatred against Christians in Turkey. The government officials are invited to take action against hate speech” said Tufan.
