Last weekend, Catholics of Iskenderun celebrated the “The Corpus Christi” with a simple ceremony. Everyone from the church community whom also joined The Corpus Christi commemorated the last supper Jesus had with his disciples and Jesus saying “This is my body” while separating the bread and saying “this is my blood” while blessing the wine.
The center of the holy ritual, the “The Corpus Christi” which carried the meaning of the bread and the wine, was celebrated on the Latin Catholic Heralding Church on İskenderun by a religious ceremony. The ceremony took place on the church field, applying social distancing rules. The ceremony was lead by the priest of the church, Francesco Pirisi.
Father Pirisi gave a preach during the ritual. In his speech, he implied that Jesus’s body and blood were the real food on the section below:
“The Holy Communion can never be used as a tool to spread faith. Because of that, the only people who are given the ‘secret’ were the people who got baptised. Jesus was humbly and weakly presenting himself completely to his people by using the Holy Communion bread. He supplies us with the holy bread every time we need it. This way, he is slowly leading us to the big feast he prepared for us that will last forever.” During the ritual, Father Francesco Pirisi and the community kneeled before the communion, completing the Corpus Christi ritual by praying to the Lord.
