There is still no news from the Assyrian couple of Hurmüz and Şimuni Diril. Their son, Istanbul Chaldean Church Parish Priest Rev. Remzi Diril called for sensitivity for his parents.
Hurmüz Diril, 71, and Şimoni Diril, 65, living in Kovankaya village of Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak, have not been heard since January 11.
While the search for Chaldean couple is interrupted due to the water conditions in the region, no trace of the couple has been encountered so far.
The investigation started by the Beytüşşebap Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is carried out with the “confidentiality” decision.
Remzi Diril, who thinks that her parents have been kidnapped, said, “There is no news for 23 days. We have not received any information yet, no confirmation.”
Diril also called for public sensitivity:
“Whoever kidnapped them, wherever they took them, we want them to be brought to the same place. We are in contact with the authorities. They said they were working as much as possible. Searches are impossible because there is snow in the region.”
It is One of the Villages Which are Evacuated
The village of Kovankaya, where the Hurmüz and Şimuni Diril couple live, was evacuated by the state in 1989. Four families settled in the village in 1992, but in 1994 the village was evacuated again.
Remzi Diril, one of the couple’s children, said, “After that date, we went to the village in 2011 and started to stay there for about five months in spring and summer. We have started to settle in the village since 2014, since my parents have always been living in the village in summer and winter. In the summer, the number of households in the village increases from five to six, but only my mother, my father and a neighbor were permanent.”
Kovankaya is a place where there are also cases of disappearance in custody after village evacuations.
Grandsons of Şimuni Diril’s uncle have also been missing since 1994.
In 1994, İlyas Diril, who was 12 years old, and Zeki Diril, who was 16 years old, were detained and there was no more news. (Gazete Karınca)
