A special ceremony was held at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Iskenderun on the occasion of the ‘Commemoration of the Dead’, which is traditionally held every year and is the symbol of entering the Easter Fasting Period.
Immediately after the Holy Mass led by the Church’s Fathers Dimitri Yıldırım and Yusuf Nicholas Papasoğlu, the priests and the members of the congregation went to the cemetery together and prayed at the graves.
Before the Easter Feast, the Orthodoxes of Iskenderun, who started the ‘Meat Fast’ as of Sunday, performed the Traditional ‘Day of Commemoration of the Dead’ last Saturday. Congregation members of the Iskenderun Orthodox Church, on the occasion of the Day of Commemoration of the Dead, which is the symbol of the entrance to the Easter Fasting Period; They came to the church for this special ritual by making bread called ‘Kıddes’ and Wheat Dessert called ‘Slika’.
In the Commemoration of the Dead, prayers are said to the souls of all the dead and candles are lit; The members of the community from Iskenderun, who distributed bread to the souls of their loved ones who migrated to eternal life, went to the cemetery with the fathers right after the service.
While each member of the congregation burned candles and incense at the grave of their relatives, Fathers Dimitri Yıldırım and Yusuf Nicholas Papasoğlu visited all the graves one by one and prayed.
