As the coronavirus epidemic is threatening the whole world, Easter Rites were held in İskenderun without the participation of the community. The Easter candle of the Annunciation Catholic Church was lit by the Apostolic Vicar of Anatolia Monsignor Paolo Bizzeti and Rev. Franco Perisi.
On Saturday night, the Parish Priest Franco Perisi and Bishop Paolo Bizzeti celebrated the Easter vigil, lighting the ‘Easter Fire ‘ in the church garden and by burning the Easter Candle from this fire. Having read chapters from the Bible in the Easter Ritual, where no members of the congregation attended, Bizzeti stated that the Easter Candle symbolized the light of Christ Jesus.
In his sermon Bizzeti said: “The truth of Jesus’ teaching is very different. With His resurrection, Jesus shows us that the life we live here continues until eternity. Whatever we experience in this life is eternal and continues. Jesus took care of everyone because he knew that life in this world was eternal. He was particularly interested in sinners. He wanted to open a new horizon for them.”
