Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and said that he supported the Ukrainian people who were under harsh conditions.
The Russian Government with its armed forces invaded the territory of Ukraine. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew had a telephone conversation with the Holy Head of the Ukrainian Church, expressing his deep regret for the gross violation of international law, and expressed his support for the Ukrainian people, who are fighting “for God and the country”, and the families of the victims and innocents.
The Patriarch noting that he condemns this baseless attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine as an independent and sovereign European State, violations of human rights, severe violence against our loved ones and above all the civilian population today, he said that he prayed that the God of love and peace would enlighten the Russian Government officials to understand the tragic consequences of their decisions and actions that could even lead to a global military conflict. The Patriarch also called on all heads of state, European institutions and international organizations to work for a peaceful solution through open dialogue to this critical situation, which is the only way to resolve any problem and overcome any form of asylum.
Additionally; The local Orthodox Churches, all Christians and all well-meaning people are called to pray constantly for fraternal, peace and justice for the Ukrainian people and Ukraine.
