The European Union (EU) is conducting the largest search and rescue operation until the moment it came together due to earthquakes. The European Union has announced that it has carried out the largest search and rescue operation until the Civil Protection Mechanism, which includes Turkey and Syria, has been expanded. The EU announced that 1,485 rescuers from 20 member states, including Turkey, are in the field with 100 search-and-rescue dogs.
In the statement made by the EU Commission, it was underlined that the Civil Protection Mechanism was activated after two major earthquakes on 6 February and that the EU’s largest search and rescue operation was carried out through this mechanism.
It was also stated that the EU is in the preparation of humanitarian aid “in addition” and it was noted that in addition to the crew and humanitarian aid sent so far, Germany, Lithuania and Slovenia will provide blankets, tents and heaters.
The Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid institution affiliated to the EU Commission shared the map of EU aid efforts in the regions in Turkey and noted that the EU teams have coordination centers in Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman, Malatya, Gaziantep, Adana and Hatay.
It was emphasized that as of yesterday, 1.485 rescuers from 20 European Union countries, mostly in Turkey, were on the field with 100 search and rescue dogs.
