“Feast of Appearance of the Holy Cross” (Ton Yerevman Surp Khaçi), one of the 4 Cross Feasts in the Armenian Catholic Churches of Turkey, was celebrated with a ceremony held on Sunday, May 15.
High Priest Vartan Kazancıyan, Archdeacon Der Hagop Minasyan, Gisasargavak Jan Acemoğlu and the reader Levon Yunkes also attended the Mass held at Taksim Surp Hovhan Vosgeperan.
Surp Hovhan Vosgeperan Choir sang chants under the direction of Conductor Zaven Agay. The ritual was broadcast live on the social media pages of the Taksim Surp Hovhan Vosgeperan Church.
The appearance of a gigantic “Cross”, which appeared with a bright light in the sky in the daytime in 351 in Jerusalem, was watched for hours with astonishment and enthusiasm by those who saw it. This event led to the consolidation of the Christian World’s Prayer of Confession of Faith and began to be commemorated every year by entering the church calendar.
