The ‘Good Friday’ ritual, the last ritual of the ‘Holy Pain Week’ before Easter, was held with limited participation at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Iskenderun. Easter, one of the biggest holidays in the Christian world, will be celebrated by the Orthodox Community tonight.
Orthodox citizens of Iskenderun experienced the “Holy Friday” ritual, in sadness, which commemorates the persecution and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, before the Easter. In the holy liturgy directed by the Father of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Yusuf Nicholas Papasoğlu in Iskenderun, the sufferings of Christ until the capture of Jesus and his death on the cross were read in parts.
At the end of the Holy Mass, while the representative coffin of Jesus Christ was being circled around the church, the members of the congregation participating in the ritual also passed under the coffin and prayed.
The Feast Rite, which will be held at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Iskenderun due to the Easter, will be held tonight. A limited number of Christian citizens who will participate in the ceremony will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the 3rd day after his death by singing hymns and prayers, accompanied by burning candles.
While Easter is considered one of the greatest holidays in Christendom, meaning “Resurrection from the Dead” on the third day after the last supper of our Savior, Jesus Christ, with his apostles, and after his crucifixion and his sacrifice for all people, is celebrated.
