‘Easter’ Joy in the Orthodox Church!
A grand ceremony was held in the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas in Iskenderun, due to the Easter Day, which is also called the Resurrection day of Jesus Christ in the Christian world. The mass started on Saturday evening at 21.30. During the mass peace messages were also given.
At the church entrance, colorful eggs and local mixed spicy donuts were distributed to members of the congregation. The mass started in the church, then continued in the churchyard. The members of the congregation who came to the courtyard behind Father Dimitri Yıldırım with candles in their hands, lived the enthusiasm of the feast.
Can Teymur, the Chairman of the Board of the Poors’ Foundation of the Orthodox Church said: “This feast represents the resurrection of Christ Jesus after his death. I wish peace and tranquility in our country. I would also like to thank our state men who celebrated our feast with us and our friends who shared our joy.”
Members of the congregation gathered at the church garden again after the ceremony, continued to tapping eggs. With the voices of ‘Mesih Kam’ (Messiah Dirildi), the faithful Iskenderun kept this enthusiasm until late in the night.
During the vigil mass, wide security measures were also taken by the Iskenderun District Security Directorate.
