Hurmüz, 72, and Şimuni Diril, 65, living in the Syriac village Mehre (Kovankaya) in the Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak, disappeared on January 11 last year. After 70 days, Şimuni Diril from the Chaldean couple, was found dead by his children on March 20, 2020, approximately 800 meters away from the village. The fate of Hurmüz Diril, 72, is still unknown.
No news has been received for 405 days from Hurmüz Diril, who lived in the Syriac village Mehre (Kovankaya) in Şırnak’s Beytüşşebap and disappeared with his wife Şimuni Diril on January 11, 2020.
70 days after the disappearance of Şimuni Diril from the Chaldean couple, his dead body was found by his son Kemal Diril, 800 meters away from their home, by the stream.
Istanbul Deputy Züleyha Gülüm made a motion requesting the response of the Chief Advisor to the President, Fuat Oktay, regarding Hurmüz Diril, who has not been heard from for a year, and the murdered Shimoni Diril. Recalling the confidentiality decision brought to the file of the Diril couple in the motion, Gülüm said that the family could not obtain information due to the confidentiality decision.
The questions Züleyha Gülüm asked for Fuat Oktay are as follows:
- By whom were Hürmüz Diril and Şimuni Diril kidnapped? Why is there no public statement regarding the murder of Şimuni Diril and kidnapping?
- What is the reason for the confidentiality order brought to the investigation by the prosecutor shortly after the kidnapping event?
- What is the fate of Hormuz Diril, who has been missing for more than a year? Are searches carried out to find him?
- At what stage is the investigation into the murder of Şimuni Diril, whose dead body was found on 20 March 2020? Why is the murder in question not enlightened?
- Is it true that Şimuni Diril, whose dead body was found, had a bullet mark on her back that was not included in the forensic report? Will a research be done on this?
- Is it because of the negligence and inadequate work of the relevant state institutions that the reason why Hürmüz Diril was not found and the murder of Şimuni Diril could not be enlightened despite all this time passed after the kidnapping and murder in question happened? Are you going to make an inspection on this?
Iraqi Christian Relief Cuncil released a video voiced in 12 languages calling for justice to find Hürmüz Diril, who has been missing for a year, and to shed light on the death of Şimuni Diril.
France, Belgium, USA, Sweden, Australia and 32 Syriac from Iraq, Chaldean Assyrian organization, sent a letter to Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gül and Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu for Hurmüz Diril to be found and the enlightenment of the death of his wife Şimuni Diril.
- The institutions that called the Ministry of Justice and the Interior demanded Hürmüz Diril to be found:
- We call on the Ministry of Justice to mobilize prosecutors to respect the victims’ right to life, to respect the procedural requirements arising from Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights, and to bring the perpetrators of these malicious acts before the judiciary.
- We call on the Ministry of Justice to investigate the procedural flaws in the autopsy report of Şimuni Diril prepared by the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute. We also demand that the full autopsy report be made available to their children and lawyers.
- We call on the Ministry of Interior to start a serious investigation into the fate of Hurmüz Diril, to determine if he is alive and if he is a victim of a kidnapping or a murder. (Bianet)
