US Senator Lindsey Graham visited Pastor Andrew Brunson who is detained in Turkey said if the resolution of the problem would not come to a better point of relations with Turkey, “I reported this to the Turkish government,” he said.
Shaheen and Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, also visited Pastor Brunson in prison in the Aliağa district of İzmir before they were received by Erdoğan late June 29.
“Pastor Brunson has been unjustly imprisoned and kept away from his family for well over one year. The opportunity to see him and his wife, Norine, and to appeal directly to President Erdoğan were my main objectives on this trip,” Shaheen said, according to a story posted on the website of the New Hampshire Union Leader over the weekend.
Brunson has been held in prison since late 2016 following the July coup attempt in Turkey. An indictment claims that Brunson had been cooperating with individuals affiliated with the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ), which the Turkish government has designated as terrorist organization.
