The first Eucharistic Celebration of the New Year was celebrated by the 85th Elected Armenian Patriarch of Turkey
85th Elected Armenian Patriarch of Turkey His Beatitude Sahak II Mashalyan offered the first Eucharistic Celebration of 2020 at the Surp Asdvadzadzin Armenian Apostolic Church in Bakirkoy.
Father Drtad Uzunyan, the parish priest was present at the ceremony, offered by Father Bedros Buldukyan. Father Buldukyan’s assistant at the altar was Deacon Aram Baronyan.
Karasun Manuk choir performed the hymns under the direction of Maestro Ümit Sekman.
In the first sermon of 2020, Patriarch Mashalyan summarized that the New Year is a new gift to us, stating that 150 thousand people die every day in the world in statistics. He said: “this is a gift to us by the Lord, that we should always be thankful in any case. We must see through the eyes of the soul, not to feel grudge while living. This is the motto of the New Year this year: ‘If you do not accept the gifts, they will return to the owner.’”
He also thanked the Bakirkoy community for their participation in the elections and for their kindness.
At the end of the service, the elected Patriarch II. Sahak Mashalyan blessed the pomegranates, the symbol of fruitfulness. The pomegranates were distributed to the faithful that filled the church completely.
