The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I who came to Sinop, visited the Governor Köksal Şakalar in his office.
Expressing his satisfaction with the close attention shown up for him in Sinop, His Holiness the Patriarch said that he was very happy for this visit. Governor Köksal Şakalar thanked the Ecumenical Patriarch and the accompanying delegation for their visit.
The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I visited the Building Unity of Balatlar and St. Fokas Church. Dr. Gülgün Köroğlu who is a professor of Art History at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Head of Building Unity of Balatlar gave information about the structure. The Patriarch prayed at the graves and lighted candles.
Following his examinations, the Ecumenical Patriarch who visited the Church of St. Fokas in Çiftlik village, also prayed in this church.
Sinop Culture and Tourism Association Chairman Cemalettin Kaya did the following statement related to the Patriarch Bartholomew’svisit to the city on Wednesday, October 17th: “Our biggest aim is the contribution of this visit to the regional tourism. We are aware that this visit is very precious for its contribution to our city out of the tourism season.”
