Thousands of people flocked to the Aya Yorgi Church in Büyükada/ Prince Island “Prinkipo”.
Aya Yorgi (Saint George) Church, which is located at the highest point of Istanbul- Prince Island “Prinkipo”, has been visited by thousands of people this year in the scope of the traditional 23rdApril march and pilgrimage. The intensity that occurred in front of the church where thousands of people had climbed for hours caused confusion. The crowd formed a long queue along the road.
Those who took part in the walk, climbed until the top with a height of about 202 meters.
The crowd continued their march by linking the tips of the spools to the trees according to old belief as they advanced from the road called ‘Suffering Hill’. According to the ancient belief, the wishes come true if the tips of the spools are not broken until the end, and the rope-binders must not talk until the church on the top while performing this action.
It is reported that there were Christian groups on the road who sang hymns and prayed for those who asked for it.
The crowd climbed up to the church carrying the candles in their hands and put them on the surrounding walls. In addition, the papers on which the wishes were written were put in the wish box. The cops took precautions by creating a line and making announcements from the loudspeakers.
DHA reported that a certain number of people were taken into the church. In addition, a police helicopter flew over and around the church.
