The Saint George Church in Istanbul’s Galata district hosted, on September 30, the celebration of the feast of St. Vincent, with the participation of the Apostolic Nuncio to Turkey, Archbishop Monsignor Paul Fitzpatrick Russell and the representative of the German Protestant Church in Turkey, Pastor Gabriel Pace.
Fr. Alexander Jernej, the Lazarist Superior of the St. George Parish, Gerda Willam the Pastoral Assistant, the Lazarists in Austria and in Istanbul and the Daughters of the Charity came together for the celebration. The Austrian choir animated the liturgy.
Mgr Russell “Conflicts and divisions exist everywhere. We need to understand that the Spirit of the Lord cannot be hidden in a small box. We have a link with God. The place of God must be clear and permanent in our lives. For St. Vincent it was the case. He knew the love of God and it became his most important reality” said in his sermon.
At the end of the ceremony, the entire congregation gathered together for a cocktail in the St. Georg Church room and had the chance of meeting Monsignor Russell.
