Percentage of Female Scientists in Turkey Above the European Average

According to 2019 data of the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), the rate of female scientists in Turkey is above the average of European countries.

Approximately 41 percent of 18 million scientists and engineers in European Union countries are women. As to in Turkey, 44 percent of the people working in science and engineering fields are women. At the female scientist employment, Turkey is ahead of many European countries such as Germany, France and Britain.

According to the 2019 data of the European Statistics Office (Eurostat), Norway, which is not a member of the European Union (EU), is the leader in Europe with 55.1 percent of female scientists and engineers. It is followed by EU member Lithuania with 55 percent.

Lithuania is followed by Latvia with 52 percent, Denmark with 51 percent and Bulgaria with 50.1 percent of women working in the field of science.

In European countries, men are mostly represented in high and medium-height technology production, the rate of men working in these fields to women is 80 percent. In other service sectors, the rate is more balanced, 55 percent of men versus 45 percent of women.

In addition, the number of women scientists and engineers in 5 European countries is more than men.

The European countries with the lowest rate of female scientists and engineers are Luxembourg with 28 percent, Finland with 30.5 percent and Hungary with 32 percent.

In Central Anatolia Region Of The Most Women Scientists in Turkey, There Are

1 million 27 thousand engineers and scientists. 573 thousand of them are men and 454 thousand are women. 44 percent of working in science and engineering fields  in Turkey are women.

When we look at the Eurostat regional map, except for the South East, the female employment in all areas of science and engineering fields in Turkey is over 40 percent.

Even in the Central Anatolia, Mediterranean and Northeastern Anatolia regions, the rate of female engineers and scientists is higher than that of men.

Looking at the research, it turns out that the rate of male engineers and scientists in Germany, Italy, Poland and many regions of the UK is much higher than women. (Euronews)
