The first Sunday mass of the Lenten season was held in Iskenderun district of Hatay, which was the most affected by the major disaster affecting 11 provinces in Turkey.
In the chapel-like hall of the Iskenderun Cathedral, which was completely destroyed in the earthquake, prayers were offered for those who lost their lives in the earthquake disaster, for those who were injured and for all earthquake victims.
Father Antuan Ilgit, Apostolic Vicar for Anatolia and Vicar General of the Diocese, presided over the liturgy. In his preaching at the Mass, Father Ilgıt pointed out that every person creates a desert for himself during the fasting period, and that the disasters experienced during this period create a desert, especially in the name of the disaster area. He pointed out that believers need to grow in their trust in God, avoiding the temptations of the devil.
