The Greek Orthodox Cemetery in the Şişli district, one of the most popular districts of Istanbul, was included in list of the Monuments of Universal Civilization.
The Sisli Greek Orthodox Cemetery was built in 1888 and many Greek, Russian, Bulgarian, Yugoslavian, Arabian, Syriac and Armenian people were buried here. The cemetery is still in use today.
It resembles an open-air museum. It is considered as an essential place for the heritage of humanity and now it is included to the international list of the European Association of Important Cemeteries (ASCE), which is a highly respected civil society organization. This list includes many cemeteries from important European centers such as Vienna, London, Berlin, Paris and Milan.
