Saint Ğevonyants Feast (Clergy Day) celebrated on Tuesday (18 February) at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Virgin Mary, with morning prayers and a Holy Mass, under the auspices of His Beatitude Sahak II Mashalyan.
The Holy Sacrament was presented by Archpriest Sarkis Kuyumcuyan. He was assisted on the altar by deacons and chorists. The hymns were performed by the priests and the organ played by Deacon Sevan Arapoğlu.
Rev. Harutyun Damatyan started his sermon started his sermon by remembering the words of St. Ğevont Yerets. Afterwards, he emphasized the importance of this saint for the history of the Armenian church.
“In the war of Vartanants between the Persian Empire and the Armenian Kingdom in the mid-5th century, which was the homeland of the Armenian people in the history, the behavior of the commander Vartan Mamigonyan and Priest Gevont Yerets enabled the Armenian people to protect their Christianity. After this event the Armenian Apostolic church canonized Rev. Gevont and dedicated him a day in the liturgical calendar” said Rev. Damatyan and then explained the meaning of the vows of priesthood. Damatyan said: “Priesthood is a process in itself that also contains the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Each minister who is ordinated buries the values of the world in his own life and gives priority to the spiritual values.”
After the ceremony, His Beatitude the Patriarch congratulated the clergy attending the ceremony.
