Before the ‘Easter (Resurrection) Day’ celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the worship of ‘Way of the Cross’, which is held every Friday during the Easter (Resurrection) period, to commemorate the ‘Holy Friday’, which commemorates the crucifixion of Christ and his death on the Golgotha Rock in Jerusalem, is an indispensable part of the fasting period.
In the Iskenderun Annunciation Latin Catholic Church, the “Way of the Cross” prayers continue to be held every Friday during the Holy Easter (Resurrection). During the coronavirus (Covid-19) period, by complying the restrictions, with the participation of a small number of congregation members, prayers are done by standing at each station and the suffering of Jesus Christ is remembered.
The Way of the Cross Ceremony, held in the Iskenderun Annunciation Latin Catholic Church, is held under the leadership of the Church Father Dariusz Dogondke (Daryuş Dogonke). While standing at each station with the tune of “We worship you Jesus, Christ we praise you / Because you saved the world with your cross!”, readings are made about the painting at that station. After the Way of the Cross, the mass of the day is also held, the Holy Communion is consecrated, and communion is given to those who participate in the mass.
In the Catholic tradition, Stations of the Way of the Cross is a dedicated action based on 14 selected depiction of the suffering of Jesus Christ on the road to Golgotha Hill, where he was crucified. It is performed during the Easter Fast, especially on Good Friday. Ceremony; includes a passage made by reading and prayers, with fourteen pictures arranged around or inside the church, standing in front of a cross or the other symbols.
