The Feast of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary was celebrated with a special ceremony at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Iskenderun. Church Father Nikola Yusuf Papasoğlu led the ceremony, which was held with the participation of a small number of community members within the framework of the pandemic rules.
Father Papasoğlu, who gave a sermon in Arabic at the Holy Mass, talked about the holiness of the Virgin Mary and noted that in such a time, it meant a great deal to accept such a difficult task. Father Papasoğlu added that the Fasting of the Virgin Mary, which was held between 1-15 August, dates back to ancient times and celebrated this special holiday of the entire community.
At the end of the ritual, in which prayers and candles were lit, the members of the congregation celebrated each other’s holidays, taking into account the distance rules.
