The Holy Friday ritual, the last ritual of the Holy Week of Passion, which will be celebrated by the Orthodox this weekend, was held at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Iskenderun with a very crowded participation after 2 years.
Easter, one of the biggest holidays in the Christian world, will be celebrated by the Orthodox Community tonight. Orthodox citizens of Iskenderun sorrowfully experienced the “Holy Friday” ritual, which commemorates the persecution and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, before the Easter Feast. In the holy liturgy directed by the Fathers of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Iskenderun, Dimitri Yıldırım and Yusuf Nicholas Papasoğlu, the sufferings of Christ until his capture and his death on the cross were read in parts from the Bible.
At the end of the Holy Mass, the representative coffin of Jesus Christ was shown in the church. After 2 years, the members of the congregation, who participated in this Holy Mass without restriction, passed under the representative coffin and prayed.
The Feast Rite, which will be held at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Iskenderun due to the Easter Feast, will be held tonight. Christians from Iskenderun, who will participate in the ceremony, will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with enthusiasm on the 3rd day after his death by singing hymns and praying, accompanied by lit candles.
While Easter is considered one of the greatest holidays of Christianity, it marks the “Resurrection from the Dead” on the third day after our Savior, Jesus Christ, had his last supper with His apostles, then His crucifixion, and sacrifice for all people.
