The world-famous writer Mıgırdiç Margosyan from Diyarbakır, was sent off to eternity with a national ceremony organized by the Patriarchate of Armenians of Turkey.
He went on his last journey accompanied by prayers by the crowd of his loved ones, who did not fit into the church. On Thursday, April 7, the ceremony at the Central Surp Asdvadzsdzin Cathedral of the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey started at 2 pm.
His loved ones and friends, who came to do their last duty for Margosyan, started to fill the churchyard in the early hours. The funeral ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Aram Ateşyan, while the Patriarch of the Armenians of Turkey Sahak II was in the chair, as well as the family of Mıgırdiç Margosyan, the Spiritual leader of the Catholic community of the Armenians of Turkey Archbishop Levon Zekiyan, Priests, fathers, deputies of some parties, some municipalities affiliated to the Turkish Armenian Patriarchate, some mayors, some party representatives, NGO administrators, some foundation heads, administrators from the Armenian community, school administrators, principals, students, friends and loved ones were present.
The ceremony started with the Lord’s prayer sung by Archbishop Aram Ateşyan, after the Bible passage and hymns, Patriarch Sahak II gave a speech in Armenian and Turkish. In his speeches, he expressed his love for Diyarbakir, the city where Margosyan was born and grew up, the importance he attaches to the lands he lived in, and that they should be proud of him as a son of this country because of the works he produced. He ended his speech by saying “may he sleep in the lights”.
The ceremony ended with the Lord’s prayer said together. Margosyan’s body was brought to the church door with hymns. He was sent off to Şişli Armenian Cemetery to be buried with the prayer said here. The attendance at the ceremony at the Şişli Armenian Cemetery was also quite high. Margosyan, who was taken to the shoulders after the prayer in the catafalk, was brought to the artists’ section in the cemetery. He was buried with prayers and hymns that said in here too and with flowers that were thrown.
