The Armenian community in Iskenderun celebrates the Zağgazart ‘Palm Sunday’, which represents Hisus’ Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem with the ‘Olive and Date Branches’, celebrated with enthusiasm before the ‘Surp Zadik’ (Easter Feast) to be celebrated on April 17.
Prayers and hymns were sung for peace at the Iskenderun Karasun Manuk Armenian Church, which was decorated with olive and date palm branches, prayers were said and hymns were sung for peace in the Holy Mass, led by Avedis Tabasyan, Religious Officer in charge of the Anatolian and Hatay Armenian Churches.
After the sermon, the Armenian community lit candles with hymns and prayers and made wishes, took the olive branches that blessed at the end of the mass, from the hands of Avedis Tabasian, the Anatolian and Hatay Armenian Churches’ Religious Officer, with the hope that they would bring blessings to their homes.
