‘Red Sunday’ Week in Armenian Apostolic Churches

In the Armenian Apostolic Churches, the “Garmir Giragi” (Red Sunday) Week was entered, one of the weeks of the Resurrection Feast period.

With the last decision taken by the Patriarchate of Armenians of Turkey, due to positive cases in some religious officials last week, after the pandemic measures, the Holy Offering did not take place this week.

The Holy Liturgy, which was performed by Father Şirvan Mürzyan, on Sunday, April 25, during the “Garmir Giragi” (Red Sunday) Week, one of the weeks of the Resurrection Feast, was broadcast on the patriarchate’s Facebook page. Then, with a live broadcast, the Patriarch of the Armenians of Turkey Kadasetli Sahak II gave sermons in Armenian and Turkish during the “Garmir Giragi” week.

“God’s words educate us like a friend”

As he began his Turkish sermon, he explained how the names of these weeks in the Armenian Church calendar were given and their meaning. He then read the Bible part of the day (John 5:19-29) and said that in order to understand the words in these verses, we must understand the Holy Trinity teaching well. Some titles from the Turkish sermon of Patriarch Sahak II are as follows;

“God has a will, there is a job he wants to do in this world, and that is to come personally to this world, to come as himself…

By our father in heaven, we mean God in unreachable depth, unattainable highness. No one has seen Him. But when we say God is everywhere, we are talking about the Holy Spirit. It is everywhere, it is in everything, it creates everything, it keeps everything in being. He is also God. He is the only God.

We will know well in whom we believe. We believe in God whose name is “life”. The source of life, it is life itself, and it stands in everything that exists. He created life. And when we die, he will resurrect our seeds.

Nothing exists by itself, does not arise by itself, does not die, does not resurrect, there is a breath in all of this, we need to see and feel all these. Then we already know that God is not far from us. We understand that life always wins.

God’s words, like a friend, truly educate us. It allows us to look in places we would never have looked. It whispers thoughts that we never thought of. For the words of God are alive. It sinks deep like a sword. The words of the Lord are the best friends to make us wise, to make us erudite. Every word shows us the miracles of life…

Blessed are those eyes that sense the fingers of God in the movements of nature. God will always bless such people, such children…

Man was created in heaven, his genes were designed accordingly, so we are always looking for that heaven. We seek God’s garden. And the whole earth is His garden. Everything is a proof of the divine life, the immortality of the divine life. Even death itself is a servant of life, because life is so wise that it even uses death for its own purposes.

Yes my dear brothers,

May the Lord illuminate your eyes, may the Lord bless your eyes so that we can see Him wherever we look. Amen.”
