There was an armed attack at the Santa Maria Latin Catholic Church in Sarıyer, Istanbul during Sunday mass. Two men wearing ski masks entered the church during mass and opened fire. People in the church threw themselves to the ground to protect themselves. One person died after being shot in the head. One person was also wounded.
Announcing that an investigation has been launched into the incident, Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya said, “During the mass at the Santa Maria Church in Sarıyer Büyükdere Neighborhood, C.T., who was among the participants of the mass, was attacked with a gun by 2 masked people and unfortunately lost his life. A large-scale investigation and efforts have been initiated to catch the attackers. We strongly condemn this vile attack.”
