President Erdoğan made statements regarding the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. Erdoğan announced a 3-month state of emergency covering 10 provinces in the earthquake zone.
Erdogan said the following:
*The earthquakes caused major destruction in 10 provinces. Experts describe the two earthquakes as unprecedented earth movements in the world.
*We are facing one of the great disasters of our geography and the world. Our state, with all its institutions and organizations, has started to work in disaster areas with the spirit of mobilization from the first moment of the earthquake.
*The severity of the earthquake disaster and its effects require us to take measures. We declare the earthquake zone a disaster area.
*Keeping transportation and communication lines open is vital. There are still difficulties in the transportation of search and rescue teams, equipment and relief supplies to the earthquake zone.
*We have decided to declare a state of emergency based on the authority granted to us by Article 119 of the Constitution. This will take 3 months and we will complete the parliamentary process as soon as possible.
*Our citizens affected by the disaster can rest assured that the state is working with all its might. We continue with a determination to overcome challenges one by one, leaving no unmet need unmet.
