One of the biggest feasts of Christianity, 25 March Annunciation Feast, was celebrated with the Holy Mass held in Mersin Orthodox Church.
This significant event, which was the beginning of God’s plan of Salvation, is given wide coverage in the book of Luke in the Bible. The celebration of this holiday on March 25 is based on two principles. First, the conception of John the Baptist coincided with September, according to Old Testament records. Elizabeth was in her sixth month of pregnancy when Mary visited Elizabeth. Accordingly, her conception of Jesus Christ coincides with March. If the celebration of the birth on December 25 is taken to the period of nine months before the Annunciation, which is required for a human pregnancy period, the date of 25 March is found. The second foundation on which this feast is based is the belief that God created the universe in March and that the event that caused the serpent to deceive the first ancestors of humanity in heaven and expelled took place on March 25.
With the Holy Mass held in the framework of Covid measures in the Mersin Orthodox Church, it is allowed to eat fish due to the Easter Fast on this feast day.
