The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Divine Appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ (Metamorphosis), which is celebrated every year during the Fasting Period of the Virgin Mary, was celebrated with a holy liturgy also held in Iskenderun. The ritual was held in accordance with the pandemic rules and with the limited participation of the congregation.
While prayers were said at the ceremony held in the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Iskenderun, under the direction of Church Father Yusuf Nicholas Papasoğlu, the “Grape Blessing”, which is a special tradition for the holiday, was also performed. Grapes blessed during the Mass were then distributed to the congregation members.
Speaking during the ceremony, Father Papasoğlu; “The Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ, which we Celebrate today, is one of the great holidays for our church. The Transfiguration of the Lord Christ to a glorious brilliance shows the Deity of Christ.
Grapes, which are blessed and distributed on this holiday, are also a symbol of abundance and fertility. May these grapes, which we will soon bless with prayers and you will take to your homes, bring abundance and blessings to your home. May it bring health and wellness to you too, every year until this day!” he said.
