While Christmas, which celebrates the birth of Lord Jesus Christ, was celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the world, it was celebrated with sadness in Iskenderun, which was seriously damaged in the disaster of the century. Due to the damage to the St. Nicholas Church in the earthquake disaster, the feast’s Mass was held in the St. George Church.
The Christmas Service held at Iskenderun St. George Greek Orthodox Church was led by Church Fathers Dimitri Yıldırım and Yusuf Nicholas Papasoğlu. Prayers were said for world peace at the holy ceremony, which was attended by all Christians living in Iskenderun.
At the end of the service, a small cocktail party was held in the church garden on the occasion of Christmas and a cake with a Santa Claus figure, specially made for the holiday, was cut. Community members who attended the service congratulated each other in the garden of the church and wished for days without disasters in the future.
