The Easter service in Mersin Saint Gabriel and Saint Michael Greek Orthodox Church was held closed to the congregation within the framework of Covid-19 measures, with the participation of only church officials, on Saturday, May 1, between 6 pm and 8 pm.
The Easter service was broadcast live on the church’s Facebook page. Thus, the Holy Easter Mass could be observed by everyone at home. People congratulated each other on social media with the words “Jesus is Risen-Truly Risen”.
Ispir Teymur, the father of the church leading the Easter service, said, “In the Christian faith, if Jesus Christ had not been resurrected, as St. Paul said, ‘All our faith would be false.’ Jesus is resurrected, O death, where is your victory? Jesus is risen, O death, where is your thorn? The basis of the Christian faith is hidden in these two words.”
Father İspir explained the importance of Easter with these words: “Holy Easter is the biggest holiday of the Christian faith. It is the day when the Lord Jesus Christ was resurrected three days after his death on the cross. This event, which changed the course of human history, forms the basis of Christianity. For no one could believe that the Word of God had the reign of life and the power to overcome bodily death. The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ gave believers this opportunity. Christ was risen and life was born like the sun forever.” (SAT-7 TURKISH NEWS / Mersin)
