This year, as every year Armenians in Turkey entered the New Year with prayers at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Kumkapı district of Istanbul.
The traditional prayer of saying goodbye to the last minutes of the year and praying for the first minutes took place also this year at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Holy Mother of God (Surp Asdvadzadzin) of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Istanbul. The prayer was led by Father Şınork Donikyan, accompanied by faithful people who filled the church.
Father Donikyan wished peace, tranquility and well-being for 2020.
In the first minutes of 2020, the candles were lit and the pomegranates, the symbol of fruitfulness were blessed by Reverend Şınork Donikyan.
After the short ceremony, blessed pomegranates were distributed to the public.
