The second part of the 85th Patriarch Election was held on Sunday, December 8th. And the election between the numinous’ was held on Saturday, December 7th.
In the election that was held in many provinces of Turkey, Armenian citizens elected their delegates to represent their churches in the election of the Patriarch.
In the 85th patriarchal election, 102 civilian and 17 numinous’ Turkish Armenians voted in 35 Armenian Apostolic Churches in Turkey. With 22 delegates, Feriköy Surp Vartanants Church has the most delegates. With a total of 89 delegate votes, Bishop Sahak Mashalyan won.
According to a statement by the Board of Entrepreneurs, all the polls have been counted. The orange list (Mashalyan) received 9,008 votes and the purple list (Ateshyan) received 3,529 votes. The orange list had 89 delegates and the purple list had 12 delegates. There were 13,704 voters in total. 753 people’s votes were invalid, while 376 voters voted blank.
Civilian delegets and 17 numinous’ will chose their 85th Patriarch on Wednesday, December 11th, at the Patriarchate Centre Church of the Virgin Mary located in Kumkapı.
