Armenians of Turkey Patriarch Sahak II. received the US Ambassador to Ankara David Satterfield at the Patriarchate On Saturday, March 20, 2021. Ambassador Satterfield was accompanied by US Consul General in Istanbul Daria Darnell and Kevin Moss. Priest Hovagim Serovpyan and Father Shirvan Murzyan were also present at the meeting.
This courtesy visit was also a celebratory visit, as Ambassador David Satterfield met with Patriarch Sahak II for the first time after the election of Patriarch Sahak II.
During the meeting, the Ambassador offered his best wishes and emphasized that the Armenian Community is an important part of Turkey’s cultural richness. On the other hand, information was given about the past and present life of the Armenian Community, and ideas were exchanged on various subjects.
Patriarch Sahak II emphasized the historical importance of the Office of the Patriarchate and touched upon its role as the spiritual center of the Armenian Community.
During the conversation, Honorable Ambassador stated that he had a meaningful day. After his courtesy visit to the Armenian Patriarchate in the morning, the newly elected Greek Metropolitan of Kadıköy would attend the inauguration ceremony of Metropolitan Emanuil.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Satterfield presented a glass plate to Patriarch Sahak II as a souvenir. Patriarch Sahak II, on the other hand, presented a sample from the book “Treasures of Faith”, which is about the clothes used in the church, as a souvenir.
After the meeting held at the office of Patriarch Sahak II, Honorable Ambassador and his companions visited the Patriarchate’s Patriarch Hovhannes Golod Collection, where they were briefed by Priest Hovagim. The guests stated that they had heard the name of the Patriarchate’s Collection before and therefore, they particularly wanted to visit the Collection. At the end of the visit, Ambassador Satterfield also signed the memoir of the collection.
After the visit, the guests thanked for the hospitality shown to them and left the Patriarchate.
