Earthquake expert Şükrü Ersoy participated in Homemade program on SAT-7 TÜRK. Touching on important and informative issues, Ersoy made statements about the possible Marmara earthquake.
Speaking about the earthquakes on February 6, 2023, Ersoy said, “The collision of two continents was so violent that news of earthquakes started to come from places we never expected.”
Pointing out that earthquakes that may occur especially on the North Anatolian Fault can be very large and deadly, Prof. Dr. Ersoy emphasized that we need to prepare very well for a possible Marmara earthquake. He said that we are an earthquake country and we should build all our structures accordingly. Ersoy said, “Türkiye’s biggest project is the earthquake project,” and touched upon the need to strengthen the structures, especially in Istanbul.
Stating that one of the important deficiencies is control, Prof. Dr. Ersoy said, “We have one of the best regulations in the world. If this regulation were fully implemented and well inspected during the construction of buildings, there would be no total destruction, people would be able to survive, unfortunately there are serious shortcomings in this regard.”
