In Beytüşşebap, an attack was carried out on the church in Kovankaya, the village of Hurmuz Diril, who has not been heard from since January 2020.
An unidentified person or persons attacked the Marta Şimoni Church in the Kovankaya (Meeri) village of Şırnak’s Beytüşşebap district. While the statues in the church were thrown to the ground, the rosaries were also found thrown out. Again, the fabrics that were hung with the hope of healing for the sick, were removed from the church and thrown from a slope, while the church’s cross was found thrown on the field.
When Did The Event Occur?
The incident occurred after the children of Hurmuz and Shimoni Diril, who disappeared on January 8, 2020 in the village of Kovankaya, returned to the village in the hope of finding any trace of Hurmuz Diril, who has not yet been found. Gülcan Diril Üzümcü, one of the family members reached by the Mezopotamya Agency (MA), stated that they went to the village with the family about 3 weeks ago. Reminding that they found the funeral of his mother Şimoni Diril on March 20, 2020, by their own means, Diril said that they continued to search for their father with the thought of a similar fate.
The Police Station Had Information
Expressing that they returned to the village to search again, find a trace and protect their parents’ vineyards and gardens, Diril said, “We don’t know if there were soldiers among them on May 9, 2021, but we saw 8 security personnel. I don’t know if there were soldiers among them, but we guessed that they would come to us. We called the police station, said there was such a unit. We learned that the police station had the information” he said.
Diril said that he did not know when the people in question had left, but that on May 11, they saw by chance that the cloths hanging in the church for the healing of the sick were thrown from a hillside, “When we went later, we saw that the prayer rosaries in the church were thrown out, the statues were thrown to the side of the stream, and the cross was burned. It happened after the security personnel arrived, no one else had come until then” he said.

Noting that they continue to search for their disappeared father, so they do not want any harm to come to them in the region, Diril called for necessary measures to be taken and said, “We suspect that the people who carried out the attack were the security personnel you saw in the village two days before the incident. We have not heard from our father, Hurmuz Diril, for days, months. When there is such an attack, an incomplete investigation, an unsolved murder, you can hold on to nothing.
