In the Midyat district of Mardin, Assyrians prayed for the end of the Covid-19 pandemic during the Easter Mass.
Assyrians celebrated Easter with a ceremony held at Mor Barsavmo Church in Midyat district. Assyrians who came to the church with their families in the early hours of the morning prayed with their children by lighting candles at the church entrance. At the ceremony led by Pastor İshak Ergün, the Assyrians demanded an end to the pandemic. During the 3-day Easter celebrations, painted eggs and Easter buns, which are the symbols of “new life and resurrection”, were distributed to the congregation at the exit of the church.
“THERE WILL BE NO HOLIDAY CONGRATULATIONS”
Speaking after the ceremony, Midyat Churches Deputy Pastor Ayhan Gürkan stated that there will be no holiday congratulations at home due to the pandemic measures, and said, ”Today is a holy day for us Assyrians. As part of the epidemic measures, we held our ritual in the church. We prayed collectively for the peace and tranquility of the whole world, as well as for the end of the coronavirus disease. After the mass in the church, we will celebrate the holiday of our relatives and loved ones in our homes by phone. There will be no holiday visits to the houses” he said. (Sözcü)
