As part of his visit to Izmir, the Holy Mass was held on Sunday, September 3, at the Cathedral of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist, under the chairmanship of Monsignor Stefan Heße, Archbishop of Hamburg, Germany.
The Archbishop of Izmir, Monsignor Martin Kmetec, and the Vatican’s Ambassador to Scandinavia, Monsignor Julio Murat, accompanied the service. General Vicar of Izmir Archdiocese, Father Felianus Dogon, Chancellor of Izmir Archdiocese, Father Alessandro Amprino, and Father Pascal Robert from Bornova Church also attended the service.
In his opening speech, Monsignor Martin Kmetec welcomed Monsignor Heße very warmly.
After reading the Words from the book of the Prophet Jeremiah and the Epistle of St. Paul to the Romans, Father Pascal Robert read the Words from the Gospel of Jesus Christ written by St. Matthew.
On Saturday, Archbishop Heße of Hamburg, as Chairman of the Migration Commission of the German Bishops’ Conference and Special Representative for Refugee Affairs, first held a meeting in İzmir Caritas with a small delegation and met with a group of refugees.
Then, a courtesy visit was made to İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and he met with the Deputy Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Mr. Mustafa Özuslu.
